shredder-in-actionIntroducing a new online web ad format, I call it, Shredder Ads. It is basically a vertical strip displaying a website name and slogan or short description, linking to a website.

Shredder ads are not designed to placed in the body of a website, but actually to show absolutely to the right of the browser window. It is ideal for sites with fixed widths and not stretched 100%. Given the Shredder ads primary display concept, it can still be incorporated with in body content of a site, with the knowledge of html.

The name “Shredder” was chosen for the simple reason that the ads resemble strips of shredded paper. Specific guidelines must be followed to make an ad a genuine Shredder. The chosen dimensions are 35 x 600 pixels. It is recommended that the background color be solid, chosen from a logo or other element. A graphic or design can be used, once it doesn’t affect the readability or the text. The text must be white or black, according the the Shredder’s background and special attention should be made readability. The focus of these ads are to stand out and make the viewer see the website name and slogan.  shredder-bottom-cutShredders can also be identified by its logo that  is displayed at the bottom of the graphic.  It is not mandatory to include this logo, but it would be cool if all ads kept it on.

Clement Faria, a Freelance Web / Multimedia Developer created this ad concept and encourages users to use these shredder ads and spread the word. They a numerous usage possibilities for these ads, one example is the use of Shredders in print media, like magazines. It’s ironic that these strips won’t be placed in a trash bin but displayed on websites in the future.
